Accounts Payable Specialist (Part or Full time)

The Opportunity:

Helomics is a bio-technology start-up located in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. Helomics assists oncologists and surgeons in choosing effective cancer therapies for their patients. As leaders in the science of individualizing cancer therapy through the use of a proprietary and unique live-tissue platform, Helomics develops novel markers to help guide treatment decisions based on the biological processes of each individual’s cancer.  Helomics’ state of the art bioinformatics combined with the analysis of the live molecular, proteomic and genomic activity of each patient’s cancer offers an innovative foundation for further development and commercialization of novel predictive markers for cancer therapy.


Duties and Responsibilities: (Include the following: other duties may be assigned)

Helomics is seeking a highly motivated person to administer the Finance clerical duties company wide. The Accounts Payroll Specialist will report to the VP Finance/Controller.  The successful candidate must be highly organized, detail oriented, versatile, and an excellent communicator.


Key functions in the position will include, but not limited to:


  • Accounts Payable

    • Circulating invoices for approval/coding

    • Processing vendor invoices

    • Processing weekly check runs

    • Electronic Filing of accounts payable invoices and payments

    • Managing vendors calls and requests

    • Maintaining sales/use tax filings

    • W9s tracking and 1099s reporting


  • Daily Bank Reporting

    • Review daily cash balances and summarizing transactions

    • Update daily cash report

    • Download daily lockbox transactions from bank




  • Education requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)

    • Associates Degree required


  • Experience: 

  • 2+ years experience in accounting and payroll

    • All computer programs (Excel, Word, Windows, PowerPoint, etc)

  • Demonstrated customer-service orientation and commitment to service quality

  • Excellent communications skills, verbal, and written

  • Ability to partner effectively with all levels of staff and management

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and problem-solve issues

  • Organizational skills and ability to multi-task effectively

  • Ability to contribute in a team-based department
