Pathologist - Part Time

DEPARTMENT: OPERATIONS ADMINISTRATION

The Opportunity:

Helomics is an Integrated Clinical Contract Research Organization located in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. Helomics mission is to improve the standard of care for cancer patients through innovative research and development partnerships with pharmaceutical, diagnostic, biotechnology, and academic organizations, leading to better and more personalized treatments and diagnostic technologies for human disease. Helomics’ CLIA-certified lab provides clinical testing that assists oncologists and surgeons in individualizing patient treatment decisions. We are currently seeking a Clinical Laboratory Pathologist to join our team part time.

 

The laboratory is certified with CLIA, NY, FL, RI, and other regulatory agencies; the candidate must meet regulatory requirements for each agency.  The laboratory is under continuous quality improvement initiative and the candidate must be familiar with data collection, analysis, and CQI methods. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • General:

    • Communicate relevant and appropriate information in a timely manner to company personnel at the request of the Medical Director

  • Daily Responsibilities: 

    • Read H&E slides to assess tumor quality and quantity

    • Read IHC slides to assign quantitative and qualitative score

    • Target slides for DNA and RNA testing

    • Perform data entry into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

  • Periodic Responsibilities:

    • Participate in CAP surveys

    • Assist with new test development including literature review, slide evaluation for optimization/validation, and algorithm development to support the Medical Director

    • Conduct literature reviews and provide recommendations for Helomics’ product lines

 

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Degree from an accredited medical school AND

    • Completed residency in Anatomic or Anatomic & Clinical Pathology

    • Current license issued by the State of Pennsylvania

    • Board certified/eligible in Anatomic or Anatomic & Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology or the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology

  • Experience:         

    • Five years of experience in the field of Diagnostic Laboratory Medicine and/or

    • Post-doctoral training in Surgical Pathology (preferred)

    • Especially, an ability to handle difficult situations involving physicians, clients, patients or others in a professional manner

Technical Skills

  • Use computers including proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools and familiarity with LIMS systems.

  • Analyze data

  • Acquire, apply, and maintain current technical knowledge
